Parliament Speaker/acting President Oleksandr Turchynov has asked the Russian military to free Colonel Yulii Mamchur, the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force's 204th Tactical Aviation Brigade based near the Belbek airport in Sevastopol, who has been taken prisoner in the Crimea.
The press service of Turchynov announced this in a statement.
According to him, the Russian military contingent in the Crimea continues to provoke, blackmail, intimidate, and seize Ukrainian citizens and military personnel serving on the peninsula.
"Colonel Yuri Mamchur, a real officer and patriot, was kidnapped in the early hours of today," Turchynov said.
The Ukrainian authorities are demanding immediate release of the colonel and an end to provocations and attempts to capture Ukrainian military units.
Turchynov also ordered the appropriate services to begin a set of measures for the appropriate response.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Russian troops arrested Colonel Yulii Mamchur, the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force's 204th Tactical Aviation Brigade based near the Belbek airport in Sevastopol, on March 22.
