The Ukrainian People's Party and the People's Movement of Ukraine (Rukh) party have decided to unite into a single party, Rukh, and elected People's Movement of Ukraine leader Vasyl Kuibida chairman of the united party.
Delegates of the two parties' congresses passed this decision on Sunday in Kyiv.
In keeping with the decision, the new party will be created through dissolution via reorganization of the Ukrainian People's Party.
Upon the congresses they will re-register members of both parties.
Herewith, all members will leave their parties and write applications on joining the united party.
Under the congresses' decision, the new party leadership will be formed on parity basis: half from the Ukrainian People's Party, half from the People's Movement of Ukraine.
Ivan Zaets was elected first deputy chairman of the party.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Justice Ministry registered the party People's Movement of Ukraine in February 1993 and the Ukrainian People's Party in December 1999.
