Ukraine expects the agreement on association with the European Union to be signed as soon as possible, the press-service of the presidential administration said referring to President Viktor Yanukovych as saying, during his meeting with heads of accredited diplomatic missions and international organizations on Friday, December 14.
"This way is undoubtedly supported by representatives of most of the political forces of our country and the society," the Ukrainian President noted.
According to Yanukovych, Ukraine is ready to a large-scale work on implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union.
"Ukraine considers the agreement as a comprehensive program of internal reforms in all spheres of political, economic and social life of the country, as well as an effective tool for improving national legislation," he said.
Yanukovych stressed one step left towards signing the Association Agreement with the EU to be made in case of political will of Ukraine and the EU.
"In the current conditions, solidarity and cohesion, but not an artificial separation from each other, should be the driving force for the rapprochement between Ukraine and the EU," the Ukrainian President said.
He emphasizes the EU is going through a difficult stage of development caused by the financial and economic crisis that makes the EU member states reach compromises on the basis of solidarity, economic and social cohesion.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Jan Tombinski, the head of the European Union's Delegation to Ukraine, said that preparation for implementation of the EU-Ukraine association agreement is a priority of the European Union's financial assistance to Ukraine in the period of 2014-2017.
The European Union supposes that the association agreement may be signed during the Eastern Partnership summit in November 2013.
