Kyiv's Holosiivskyi District Court made a decision on July 29 to hold Volodymyr Asadchyi, deputy director general of the Kyivpastrans municipal enterprise, in custody for two months until September 30, a spokesman for the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kyiv told Ukrainian News.
He was seized a day before on suspicion of embezzlement of approximately UAH 30 million allocated from the budget for reconstruction of the high-speed tram in Kyiv, and is charged under Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (assignment, waste of property or mastering it by abusing the official position), the spokesman noted.
As Ukrainian News reported, the police detained a group of persons, including some leading officials of the Kyivpastrans municipal enterprise, on suspicion of embezzlement of approximately UAH 30 million allocated from the budget for reconstruction of the high-speed tram in Kyiv. The Kyiv city council gave its go-ahead to Kyivpastrans to mortgage its assets to raise a credit facility of UAH 5 million to continue the reconstruction of the high-speed tram from the Belt Road to the railway station in Kyiv.
In June 2007, Kyivpastrans began the reconstruction of the high-speed tram from the Belt Road to the railway station in Kyiv.
The Kyiv city state administration planned to complete reconstruction of the high-speed tram until 2009, but postponed it until 2010.
