Party of Regions Indignant At BYT's Accusations Of Vote Rigging In Favor Of Yanukovych In Donetsk Region (15:20, Tuesday, February 9, 2010)

The Donetsk regional branch of the Party of Regions flatly refutes accusations from the side of the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko of vote rigging in Donetsk region during the presidential election run-off in favor of Party of Regions Leader Viktor Yanukovych.

Ukrainian News learned this from a statement by the Donetsk regional organization of the Party of Regions.

"The Party of Regions is indignant at allegations from the side of representatives of the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko that mass violations took place in Donetsk region on February 7," reads the statement.

The regional organization of the Party of Regions in its turn accuses the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko of attempts to disrupt the election process in Donetsk region.

"The cynicism of the [Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko] lies in the fact that this very political force did its utmost to disrupt the election process in Donbas," reads the statement.

According to the statement, the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko files mass lawsuits with courts of the region about violations during the presidential election run-off.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc faction considers at least 1 million ballot papers were rigged in favor of presidential candidate, Party of Regions leader Viktor Yanukovych during the February 7 presidential runoff in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and Crimea.

First Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov, who heads the election headquarters of Yulia Tymoshenko, has announced this at a news briefing that the election headquarters has registered a large number of cases of vote rigging in seven administrative regions during the second round of the presidential elections.

Vote rigging has been registered in Crimea, Dnipropetrovsk region, Donetsk region, Luhansk region, Odesa region, Mykolaiv region, and Zaporizhia region, he said.

A legal group of the election headquarters analyses the violations during the elections, he said.

He noted that the results of elections are not recognized at a polling station if over 10% of the vote is registered as being falsified.

Presidential candidate, leader of the Party of Regions Viktor Yanukovych won 48.95% of votes, and presidential candidate, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko received 45.47% of votes, according to results of vote count of 99.97% of protocols from precinct election commissions.
